John Overton High School is located in the southern portion of Davidson County, in Nashville, Tennessee. It was named for Judge John Overton who lived at nearby Travelers Rest in the 1700's. Overton has a long history of excellence both in academics and extracurricular programs. It is now the most diverse school in Tennessee with students from 63 countries speaking over 50 languages. This diversity brings a unique opportunity for collaboration to Overton.

Overton FFA Motto:

An FFA chapter may be chartered in any public school with an agricultural education program. Leadership is provided by student officers who are elected each year and by the agriculture teacher who serves as the advisor for the chapter.
  
The agricultural education program is centered around the three core principles of classroom/laboratory instruction, supervised agricultural experience programs, and FFA student organization activities/opportunities. 

 


  
FFA:
Founded in 1928, the National FFA Organization is an organization for students enrolled in Agriculture Education classes. The mission of the FFA is to develop premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agriculture education.

To accomplish its mission, FFA:

  • Develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership.
  • Increases awareness of the global and technological importance of agriculture and its contribution to our well-being.
  • Strengthens the confidence of agriculture students in themselves and their work.
  • Promotes the intelligent choice and establishment of an agricultural career.
  • Encourages achievement in supervised agricultural experience programs.
  • Encourages wise management of economic, environmental and human resources of the community.

National FFA Federal Charter & Public Law

The National FFA Organization operates under a Federal Charter granted by the 81st Congress of the United States, and is an integral part of public instruction in agriculture. The U.S. Department of Education provides leadership and helps set direction for the FFA as a service to state and local agricultural education programs.

Educational materials are developed by FFA in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education as a service to state and local agricultural education agencies.
